DAVID Walker’s attack on Redditch Council for failing – as he sees it – to tidy up the former Jade Garden site (Advertiser, October 23) sets new standards in ignorance and he should be congratulated.

The council simply does not have the powers to act on aesthetics.

If the site is deemed safe in all key respects then does Mr Walker simply think that the council can – or should – send in the demolition contractors onto private property and do as they wish?

Has he noticed that the building’s fabric is as one with it’s neighbours? Even if the council could simply knock it down it would require a small fortune to do so.

But let’s not, as ever, muddy the waters with facts. If he really is that bothered then why doesn’t he get off his backside, find the owners and work with them to “stick some windows in it and advertise its availability”.

Far easier, Mr Walker, like so many to simply blame “the council“ for everything from the weather, the economy, the price of chips through to Nottingham Forest’s embarrassing 3-1 defeat at Yeovil.

Oh, and by the way, the UK recession ended at the end of Q2 2012.

Those annoying facts again.
