I WRITE to appeal to the driver of a hit-and-run which occurred on Saturday, September 28 at 2.40pm on the corner of Hopyard Lane and Insetton Close, Winyates, and ask for any witness to this offence to come forward.

A possible witness was an ice cream vendor in the area at that time who stopped to ask my grandson if he was all right. I would ask that this vendor contact the police if he can recall any information regarding the vehicle.

In his shocked state my grandson recalled being knocked off his bike by a dark green 4x4 car as he crossed the road by the footpath, but could not recall the registration number.

Thankfully the vehicle was not travelling at speed, having just turned the corner from Insetton Close and my grandson only sustained a grazed arm and sprained wrist, but his injuries or, in this case, the lack of them, should not have prevented the driver from stopping to check on him. I find it disgusting that the driver merely drove off leaving him to pick himself up.

I would hope that the driver would now have the decency to contact the police – or forever have this accident on their conscience – if they have one, that is DENISE COLLIS Greenlands
