THOUSANDS of school children hit the high notes at the Big Sing event held at the University of Worcester Arena.

Around 3,000 children enjoyed taking part in the event, which was held at the Hylton Road venue on Monday.

The Institute of Education at the University of Worcester and Severn Arts organised the event to bring the pupils from a number of county schools together.

The pupils, aged seven to 11-years-old, sang in unison to a variety of historic themed songs at the Big Sing.

Among the songs that were enthusiastically sung were Viking Warrior, Chop and Change, Last Kiss Goodbye and Power in Me - all written by talented musician Rebecca Lawrence, whose songs have been performed across the world.

Pupils took part in rehearsals ahead of the event, including learning sign language to enable them to sing and sign.

At the event pupils also participated in a singing workshop with educational vocal animateur, Ula Weber, who works with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.

Julie Sutton, senior lecturer at the University of Worcester and who was involved in organising the event, said: “It was a fantastic day. The children really got into the spirit and it was wonderful to hear them all singing together.”

The event was originally set up to get youngsters interested in classical music, and has grown every year since first being held in 2014.
