A POLICE sergeant has said getting a criminal behaviour order put on a repeat offender will be an effective means of getting crime “under control” on a troubled Droitwich estate.

Sgt Sarah Kent, speaking at a recent council meeting, said police have applied for the CBO to be placed on Jack Rowley as part of a scheme to help prevent crime on the Westlands.

Rowley, 25, was jailed for six months in May after breaching a restraining order preventing him seeing his ex-girlfriend, following a previous harassment conviction, and other offences.

One of the conditions of the proposed CBO will include a ban on Rowley, who is homeless, entering the estate, where most of his recent offences have taken place.

“He’s caused quite a few issues on the estate,” said Sgt Kent. “He is invariably homeless on there, or sofa surfing.

“My team worked quite hard to pull everything together to get him imprisoned for six months. While he’s inside, we’re looking at getting a CBO on him.

“One of the conditions we’re asking the court to consider is to exclude him from the Westlands estate.

“It’s no easy thing getting a CBO, which is effectively an ASBO, but I think his type of behaviour is very effective of getting it under control,” she said.

Rowley was arrested on May 18 at his 16-year-old ex’s home on the Westlands.

He had initially fled from officers, having spat at his ex and threatened violence, before returning and damaging a police van with a rock.

Having been arrested, he made racially abusive comments to a police officer.

The CBO hearing was originally meant to be heard on June 1 but was then adjourned until July 4.
