RESIDENTS are being invited to take part in Redditch's very first Faiths Together walk, happening this weekend.

The event is open to people of all faiths and none, with the hope that people meet with and understand and learn about the various faith groups and religions in Redditch.

The walk will start at St Stephen’s Church before a precession sets off to the mosque in Jinnah road and then the Ridgeway where the Sikh community meet and worship.

Councillor Bill Hartnett, leader of Redditch Council, said: "We believe the Redditch community has more that unites us than can ever divide us.

"We want to give this opportunity to learn, understand and celebrate different faiths so that we can be united through our diversity.

"The aim is for it to become an annual event in Redditch attending and learning about different faith centres each time."

The move follows a Unity through Diversity conference held in the town last October by Redditch One World Link.

It is being organized by Cllr Harnett and Nitin Sodha with the aim of giving all Redditch faith groups the chance to get to know and understand each other better.

Cllr Hartnett added: "We think it is more important than ever to hold this event now and we hope it will be supported by as many people as possible."

The Faiths Together walk will take place this Sunday, April 26.
