AN 11-year-old boy from Feckenham near Redditch has become one of the youngest people in the country to achieve grade six in electric guitar.

William Lane started learning to play the instrument four years ago after his dad brought him his first guitar.

He passed the Rock School exam with merit, the equivalent to an A-level, and will now begin working towards grade 7.

He practices five days a week and has lessons.

His tutor Victor Nicholson said: "In 13 years of teaching I have never encountered a child of such a young age, with such a talent.

"There is more to all this than just natural ability. Natural ability has to be developed or it is useless.
Will has shown he has great patience, tenacity and determination as well as maturity.

"If he continues in this way, he'll become a force to be reckoned with - a future star. I am proud to be his teacher.”

William has a collection of both electric and acoustic guitars.

His dad Peter Lane said: “William took to the guitar naturally, but it is his hard work and determination that has got him to this level.

“We are really proud of him and all that he has achieved in such a short space of time.”

William is now hoping to join a youth band. If anyone is looking for a new member, contact his dad Peter on 07968 023456.
