GREEN fingered volunteers are being invited to take part in a wassail whilst also helping to spruce up Alcester Community Orchard.

On Saturday 21st February from 10.30am to 12.30pm residents are being asked to bring secateurs- if they have a pair- and meet Jubilee Centre in Alcester before heading to the orchard.

Free refreshments, including hot chocolate, mulled cider and biscuits, will be provided.

The environment sub-committee of Alcester Town Council have enlisted the support of the Natural England Land Management Team to give a talk on pruning during the event.

Town councillor Nina Knapman, chair of the environmental sub-committee, said: “It’ll be fun and very satisfying because come autumn time, thanks to your efforts, you’ll be able to enjoy the fruit of your labours.

“We’re trying to get everyone on board - from schools and clubs, families to more seasoned members of our town.”

Those taking part are advised to wear warm outdoor clothing.

The orchard, which was a partnership between the Trust and Alcester Town Council, has a picnic area and 45 mixed fruit trees.

It was funded through a donation of more than £11,000 given by Warwickshire County Council Stratford Development Fund and Orbit Heart of England Community Investment Fund
