ALCESTER Army Cadets raised £600 towards their First World War battlefield tour by holding a sponsored bag pack at Morrisons in Stratford.

On Saturday, November 15, the cadets worked hard make the money which be put towards the trip to Ypres in Belgium.

Julie Cook, detachment commander for Alcester Army Cadets, said: “I want them to have a sense of history and pride in the uniform. We have a list of the war dead from the Veteran's Society and will research the men involved. I want the cadets to have a connection with real people and real events.”

They have already received generous donations from Round Table, Becketts Farm and The Alcester Court Leet.

The cadets will visit battlefields, graves and participate in a Last Post ceremony held every evening at the Menin Gate in Ypres. The service is usually watched by around one thousand spectators.

So far, they have raised more than £6,000 and are very close to their target.
