A REDDITCH teen has been honoured at the Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service's annual awards ceremony.

James Kings, from Webheath, was awarded the Young Fire Fighter High Sheriff Award, presented annually to the top young firefighter from the county.

The 17-year-old, who has been a young firefighter at Redditch Fire Station since the age of 13, was awarded the accolade for his determination, enthusiasm and desire to improve his skills.

The award was presented to James at a special ceremony at the Guildhall in Worcester.

Chief fire officer Mark Yates said: "I offer all recipients my congratulations and on behalf of the service, thank you for your on-going commitment."

James has now left school and has an apprenticeship with Thorlux Lighting in Redditch.

He is studying to become an electrical engineer.
