THE boyfriend of a Bromsgrove teen with an inoperable brain tumour has shaved off his hair to raise money for alternative treatment.

Trainee nurse Charlotte Taylor, 19, was diagnosed with a grade four glioblastoma in February, after suffering with headaches since Christmas.

Family, friends and neighbours have since raised more than £30,000 to pay for treatment abroad, and a fundraising ball has been organised for May 12 at the Marriott Forest of Arden Country Club.

On Friday, Charlotte's boyfriend-of-five-years Adrian Drew raised a further £1,000 by having his head shaved at Barber Lab in New Road.

"I've always had quite long hair," said Adrian, who met Charlotte as students at South Bromsgrove High School. "There's lots of fundraising events going on but, being 18, I don't have a lot of money to contribute, so I wanted to do something to help Charlotte and the family.

"I don't have the capacity to organise a big black tie event so I thought I'd just shave my hair.

"Charlotte seems to like my new hair - at least, she's still interested in being in a relationship with me."

Hours after his fundraising head shave, Adrian proposed to Charlotte at a Bromsgrove's Britannia Hotel.

"There's lots of unknowns at the moment while we look into alternative treatment, but we'd definitely like to start planning a wedding," said Adrian.

"It was our five-year anniversary on Friday but Charlotte definitely wasn't expecting me to propose. Thankfully she said yes."

Since Charlotte's diagnosis, Adrian has helped to cook and care for her at her family's home in the Oakalls estate.

Charlotte has now finished chemo and radiotherapy, but still struggles with her vision, memory and mobility.

"As far as we know she's responded well to treatment," said Adrian. "She's definitely not cured and this isn't a long term solution, but it has given us hope."
