A KINVER theatre company is set for a busy summer – with an Edinburgh Fringe debut flanked by a trio of local productions.

The New Kinver Players (NKP) will put on a locally-written play – A Librarian – at the Fringe, the world’s biggest arts festival, in August.

There will be a one-off preview of the performance at the KSCA (Kinver Sports and Community Association) on August 9 before the group head off to Scotland.

A Librarian, a 45-minute thriller by local writer Stephen Moran, came a close second at the Lighthorne Theatre Festival last year.

Ruth Cattell was lead actress for that performance and she takes the role on once again, for NKP’s Fringe debut, and for the one-off preview performance at the KSCA.

Before then, the Players will perform Alan Ayckbourn’s black comedy A Woman In Mind at the KSCA from July 4-7.

Then, following four sell-out performances last summer, they will be re-running Spirits of The Rock in the Kinver Rock Houses in September.

The play brings to life the stories and legends of the Rock Houses in Kinver - the homes carved straight into the belly of the Rock.

The play is based on real life characters, and will be performed in the Rock Houses’ Ballroom which is the largest of the caves, with stage lighting adding to the dramatic setting.

The 45-minute play was written by NKP chairman Martin Ward and commissioned by the National Trust.

“It’s been a busy few months for the New Kinver Players” said Martin, “and we’re delighted to be performing not only established plays but locally-written ones too.

“It’s taken us into new territory, which is very exciting, not only for those involved with the group, but hopefully to our loyal audience as well.”

Tickets for the three local shows – A Woman In Mind (July 4-7, £9 or £7 concessions), A Librarian (August 9, £5) and Spirits of the Rock (September 1-2, £5) – are on sale from www.nkp.org.uk or Omnipresent, Kinver.

Tickets for NKP’s Fringe debut, meanwhile, from August 20-25 at theSpace on North Bridge, Edinburgh cost £9 or £7 concessions and are available from www.edfringe.com
