HEREFORDSHIRE Council holds no records of communication between its bypass chief and Highways England this year, a freedom of information request has revealed.

The council was asked to provide all correspondence between infrastructure cabinet member Philip Price and Highways England representatives regarding the Hereford Transport Package from January 1, 2018 to August 10.

A council information access officer said: “I am advised that Herefordshire Council holds no records of correspondence between councillor Philip Price and Highways England representatives.”

Council bosses said in June that they did not have written confirmation that Highways England would transfer the trunk road status of the A49 road onto the proposed western relief road once it is built.

Councillor Price explained at the time that there was an expectation that Highways England would do so.

Council leaders chose the £129million red route as their preferred option for a Hereford bypass at a cabinet meeting on July 27.

This decision allows for a third stage of consultation and the council’s economy, communities and corporate director can progress the route design to a maximum cost of £2.45m.

The proposed route would travel between Warham Farm and Warham House and cross the River Wye close to Dorchester Way in Belmont.
