A POLISH family have been left "terrified" after armed thugs smashed their car parked in Tolladine, causing about £5,000 worth of damage.

The family, who asked to remain anonymous, believe the shocking attack was racially motivated.

Speaking to the Worcester News, the 42-year-old mother-of-three, whose children are aged 16, 14 and eight, said the family saw three vandals, thought to in their late teens or early 20s, armed with a metal pipe, baseball bat and hammer smash six of the Audi Q7’s eight windows and damage the bonnet and a mirror, during the terrifying attack on Portefields Road, off Tolladine Road, Worcester, at about 9.30pm on Wednesday, August 8.

Following the attack, her husband and 14-year-old daughter chased after the assailants but they managed to escape.

She said: “I heard some kind of noise - I went outside. My husband and daughter then chased after them and I called the police.

“My youngest was sick just moments after it happened. He didn’t know what was going on.

“He has lived in a good environment and was very protected by us- because he is my baby.”

She said: “I am terrified about my kids. I don’t know what will happen next. It’s people with low eduction.

“You never know -it’s just there have been cases where people have thrown petrol bombs.”

Following the incident, neighbours came out into the street and the family believe they may have seen what happened but fear they will not report it to the police.

She added: “12 years I have lived here and I have experienced a lot of hate - abuse and that and things like this.

“We are not in other people’s way - we are a hard working family.”

Following the damage, the mother has contacted the insurance company and is awaiting a courtesy car.

She predicts the damage will cost about £5,000 to fix and is unsure when the car will be back on the road.

West Mercia Police confirmed it received a report of criminal damage to a vehicle on Portefields Road, Worcester at around 9.40pm on Wednesday, August 8.

An investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about the incident is urged to call 101, quoting incident 837S of August 8 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
