STOURPORT shops are being urged to proudly show off their decorative skills by dressing up their windows ahead of this year’s carnival.

This year’s annual bash will take place in the town on September 1 but, in a change from the traditional format, the best dressed shop window will be decided via a Facebook vote.

Jon May, who owns Mooch Gifts & Home, said he suggested the idea of holding the competition online after Carnival organisers indicated it would not be taking place due this year due to concerns over a lack of interest.

He said: "We in our three years at Mooch have always participated in supporting the Carnival.

"It has deep rooted history in the town with the shop window rose bowl dating back years.

"It is great that this tradition is continuing as the carnival is a celebration for the whole town to participate in. We have exciting plans for our window this year!"

Businesses are being asked to decorate their shops by August 24 and a poll will be run on the ‘We Love Stourport Past and Present’ Facebook page for five days from August 27.

Photos of all entries will be displayed on the Facebook page to help people make their decisions. Deadline for casting votes is Friday, August 31.

The winner, who will receive the Carnival Rose Bowl, will be announced on the page and people can send their entry photos in via a message on We Love Stourport or by emailing Lshanuk@aol.com.
