A SCHOOL in Redditch scored big when it was chosen as the first in the country to receive a visit from the Premier League trophy.

The famous trophy found its way into Webheath Primary School last Thursday, just weeks after it was lifted by Pep Guardiola’s table-topping Manchester City.

The school was randomly selected as a winner after it was entered into the Premier League Primary Stars competition by teacher Alison Preece.

Ms Preece said “We kept it secret from the children so they did not know what they were going to find, but they have been absolutely in awe.

“It is all about giving children the opportunity to learn about sport and teamwork. All the kids have had an amazing time.”

As well as playing games of football, kids were given talks from Premier League Primary Stars (PLPS) on teamwork and even met West Bromwich Albion mascot Baggie Bird, after the club joined to help teach and inspire.

Jez Weeks of PLPS said: “We have been to more than 50 schools since last year. This is the first in the whole country we have been to since it has been in Manchester City colours, so it has been really exciting to be here.”

Delighted Year 3 student Fraser Rhodes said: “It was really good that we got to play matches and it was inspiring to see the actual trophy.” Fellow pupil Caiden Hadley added: “It has been quite cool to see it!”
