A DRUNK man who refused to leave a Hereford pub was ordered to pay £155 by magistrates.

Chakab Dahmane, 47, of Stoneleigh Drive, Belmont, Hereford pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in a public place.

Owen Beale, prosecuting at Hereford Magistrates Court on Thursday, said that on January 25 police were called to The Grapes in Hereford at 8.45pm after Dahmane was refusing to leave the pub and had entered an area of the pub he was not supposed to have access to.

"Dahmane was found at the bar, clearly drunk, smelling strongly of alcohol and couldn't stand upright," said Mr Beale.

"He wouldn't speak to officers or give his details and kept telling them to go away. He kept pulling away and telling officers that they didn't need to know who he was and that he didn't know who they were.

"His behaviour became worse after he was arrested. He was disorderly towards the barman and the officers."

In an impact statement the barman said that he knew Dahmane as a regular customer who had never behaved like this before.

Representing himself Dahmane claimed he wasn't disorderly.

"Do you want me to get the landlady? She can tell you I was just drunk," said Dahmane.

"The new barman had never seen me there before and called the police. I was drunk but didn't do anything else."

Dahmane was handed a conditional discharge for 12 months. He was also ordered to pay £135 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
