WITNESSES have told a jury that they saw an Audi and motorcycle racing moments before a fatal Brierley Hill crash.

"When I looked it appeared as though the car was in the process of overtaking the motorcycle," Keith Ward told Wolverhampton Crown Court.

"They seemed to be racing each other. My initial thought was that they were both going too fast."

Stourton motorcyclist Elliott Beddow was killed when he lost control of his Harley Davidson near the Silver End Convenience Store in Brettell Lane on September 3, 2016.

The driver of the Audi, 42-year-old Dylan Dudgon, of Victoria Road, Quarry Bank, has pleaded not guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.

Another witness told the court that he had been overtaken by the motorcycle and the Audi, adding: "They were racing each other. I had them in sight for about 30 seconds."

He said moments later he came upon the scene of the accident and saw the motorcyclist lying on the ground.

Paul Hendry, a charge nurse in an intensive care ward, said in a statement that he had been asleep when he heard the sound of skidding followed by a collision.

He said he dressed quickly and rushed outside his home where he saw the 20-year-old motorcyclist.

But he could not find a pulse and he said he was present when the young man was pronounced dead.

The trial continues.
