A LORRY crashed into a railway bridge on Tolladine Road, Worcester.

West Mercia Police were called to the scene, just after 12.50pm yesterday (Monday, February 19). 

The crash caused rail delays until 1.45pm. 

Bricks and debris from the freight bridge were left on the road after the incident but no-one was injured.

Network Rail was informed of the damage. 

A National Rail spokesman said: "We have seen the damage and we have examined the bridge, it is safe for trains to continue using it.

"We have no evidence the damage requires repairs to the brickwork."

He added that following the smash trains had been run a slower speeds but were able to return to their usual pace at 2.20pm. 

Speaking following the crash, Annalisa Bond, of Barbourne, said: "There are bricks and debris in the street. 

"I am concerned about the bricks in the road damaging a car. They need to clear it up."

A West Mercia Police spokesman said: "Police were called to reports of a lorry colliding with a bridge on Tolladine Road, Worcester.

"Report of damage to brickwork but no reported injuries."

This is not the first time the bridge has been damaged by a lorry, previously, the structure was struck twice in less than a month on November 21 and December 12 2014.
