A KIDDERMINSTER man who admitted breaching a suspended jail term that he received after "partially blinding" another man in a Cheltenham nightclub, has been warned by a judge he now faces jail.

Taylor Lowell, 24, of Mill Street, assaulted Thomas Bell in the 13 Degrees Nightclub in Cheltenham in the early hours of July 3, 2016, irreparably damaging the retina in one of his eyes.

On Monday (November 20), Lowell admitted at Gloucester Crown that he had flouted the terms of his suspended sentence order, which he received in April, by not attending unpaid work on June 4, August 6, August 13, and August 27.

Lowell was not legally represented in court on Monday - and Judge Michael Cullum agreed to adjourn the case, so that a lawyer could try to convince him not to send Lowell to jail.

Of the 250 hours on unpaid work imposed on Lowell in court on April 6, he had managed to complete just 93 and a half - leaving 156 and a half hours still to complete - the judge heard.

Lowell was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment which was suspended for 18 months on the basis that he commit no further offences, but also to complete those 250 hours of unpaid work.

The judge told Lowell that he was considering sending him to prison and asked him if he wanted legal representation. Lowell told the court that he wasn't aware of the process.

Judge Cullum said: "Let me help you with this. The starting point is that you are breaching the order and going to prison.

"You are exceptionally close to going to prison today.

"When I said to you if you don't comply, I will send you to prison, I remember that, do you?"

Lowell said: "First of all, I would like to apologise, my work dried up and I went to work at every opportunity I could.

"My boss told me he would provide letters in time but he didn't."

The judge added: "You partially blinded a man. He won't have moved on.

"I am not sure that you won't receive a custodial sentence.

"I want you to understand how much trouble you are in.

"I'll adjourn for three weeks. I suggest you contact your solicitors today."

Lowell was granted bail until the next hearing on Monday, December 11.
