THREE parks in Wyre Forest are in the running to be crowned the best in the UK.

Brinton Park and Springfield Park, in Kidderminster, and Lickhill War Memorial Park, in Stourport, are all shortlisted for the title of the UK’s Best Park.

The competition, organised by Fields in Trust, gives the public the chance to vote for its favourite park ahead of the award ceremony at Lord’s Cricket Ground on Wednesday, November 29.

Springfield and Brinton Parks are owned by Wyre Forest District Council, while Stourport Town Council own Lickhill War Memorial Park.

A spokesman from Stourport Town Council said: "We are delighted that Stourport Memorial Park has been nominated for this award.

"The park is well used by the local community and the town council are expecting usage to increase significantly with the opening of the green gym and natural play area currently being installed. The infants play area will also be improved very shortly.

"The park is used for a number of special events including various fun days."

Councillor Rebecca Vale, Wyre Forest District Council's cabinet member for operational services, added: "We are delighted that both Brinton Park and Springfield Park have been shortlisted for Best Park in the UK.

"These two parks are well used by all members of the community and have great facilities ranging from a splash park, play areas for toddlers, juniors and teens, tennis courts, skate park, sport pitches, plant nursery and a community cafe.

"We believe that a park is for all members of the community and look to incorporate facilities and features that cater for all age groups and ensure that they contribute to keeping Wyre Forest safe, clean and looking good."
