A VIGIL is to take place tonight in Worcester to remember the victims of the Manchester suicide bombing.

Organised by Lydia Munslow, the vigil will take place at the fountains at South Quay at 8pm tonight.

The vigil marks a week since the attack at Manchester Arena which claimed the lives of 22 people, including those of seven children, and seriously injured many others.

The plan is to read aloud the names of the victims, hold a one minutes’ silence, and release 22 helium balloons, each with the name of a victim written upon it.

The 27-year-old organiser said the helium balloons, which would have cost more than £20, have kindly been provided free of charge after she spoke to the manager of the Card Factory, Nick Jones.

Miss Munslow has promoted the vigil through Facebook and her post has already been shared 300 times with 360 people interested and 198 people saying they intend to go.

The healthcare assistant from Worcester said there would be a collection for the victims at the vigil and she would also read a short speech.

She hopes there will be music and asks if people can attend a little before 8pm which is when the ceremony will begin.

Those who wish to attend are welcome to bring flowers. B&M Bargains in Worcester donated two packets of LED tea light candles.

After Miss Munslow spoke to managers at Tesco in Warndon Villages they presented her with a £30 voucher to help towards the cost of the vigil.

She said: “ I think people may be quite surprised about how many people will be there. I wanted everyone to come together regardless of anything else – race, sexuality, gender - just to remember the victims and show a spirit of community.”

Even those unable to attend the vigil can take part by sending in photos of their own tributes and messages using the hashtag #WorcesterstandswithManchester
