AHEAD of National Volunteers' Week, Dogs Trust Evesham are encouraging pooch lovers to help.

The dogs trust has a variety of roles available from walking hounds, being a temporary foster carer, to assisting with fundraising and helping at events.

Sarah Fortey, volunteer coordinator at Dogs Trust Evesham said: "Volunteers are extremely important to us as a charity and we couldn’t care for as many dogs as we do without their help.

"We are always on the lookout for new recruits and really hope these exciting opportunities will appeal to a wide range of people.

"All volunteers will have full training to help them get to grips with their new roles and will get to meet plenty of furry friends along the way.

"If you think you could spare some time to lend a hand, please get in touch.”

The UK celebrates National Volunteers' Week from Thursday (June 1) until Wednesday June 7.

Although the charity has a dedicated team of staff, Dogs Trust Evesham also relies on the support of its volunteers who have given in excess of 2,000 hours to the charity in 2017 alone.

To be a volunteer canine assistant, a typical morning would be cleaning and walking dogs with the afternoon a bit more relaxed with more time to spend grooming the dogs.

The trust warn that it is important to know that this role is physically demanding and requires a good level of fitness.

Dogs Trust Evesham is also looking for experienced foster carers to take dogs in on a temporary basis, supplying food, bedding, toys and everything else that is needed.

Home visitors are also being sought by the dogs trust, which help to check the suitability of prospective new adopter’s homes and the environment for that particular dog.

Volunteers must be able to drive and have access to a car, this role is suitable for people who are confident with face to face communication.

Volunteers are needed for the fun day, on Sunday June 25 from 9am to 4pm for jobs including manning stalls, marshalling and organising event activities. For people not able to volunteer on the day, the charity is looking for budding bakers to bake a cake for the cake stall.
