A WOMAN's children watched in horror as a dog 'bit a chunk out of her chin' in Aston Fields.

The woman, who wishes not to be named, claims she was attacked by the dog outside the Wine Cabin in Stoke Road on Monday evening, after asking the owner if it was safe to stroke him.

"I asked the guy 'is he okay to stroke?' and he said yes and that his name was Jake," she said. "But then when I bent down to stroke him he jumped and took a chunk out of my chin. If it had been a toddler he would have taken its face off.

"I did ask if it was okay to stroke him - it's not like I just lunged at him because I drum that into my own children to always ask first.

"Obviously I was crying in pain and I ran into the shop and they rang the police, who said I'd need medical treatment and to go straight to A&E. But I have two young children on my own so I rang 111 for medical advice and went to see my GP in the morning."

The 49-year-old had a tetanus injection and was prescribed anti-biotics, but says she is still in pain with swollen lips.

The woman was with her 11-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter at the time of the attack and says they have both been 'very upset' by the ordeal.

"The man with the dog just walked off," she said. "If he had just stood and given his phone number it wouldn’t be as much of a problem but the fact that he walked off made me think maybe this isn’t the first time the dog’s attacked someone and he doesn’t want to be caught.

"If you don't know how a dog is going to react just put a muzzle on. I think muzzles should be compulsory for all dogs walking in public personally."

The dog was described as black and medium-sized and the owner is thought to have been in his 40s or 50s.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "I can confirm that it was reported at 6:14pm on May 22 that a woman was bitten by a dog on Stoke Road in Bromsgrove. The details leading upto the incident have yet to be ascertained."
