A SPEED camera has been permanently removed from Hylton Road, Worcester.

Workmen removed the camera using a hoist and loaded it into a van shortly before 9am this morning.

A spokesman for the Safer Roads Partnership in West Mercia said the move was permanent said: "Worcestershire County Council have installed various engineering features, such as crossings, along this route and this, combined with the camera has brought the speed and collisions down to a level where we feel that the camera has done its job.

"We will obviously continue to monitor the route to ensure this remains the case."

The camera has been on Hylton Road for at least 12 years, possibly longer.

The Worcester News is trying to verify how long it has been there more precisely. We are also trying to obtain information showing how accidents/incidents/speeds have fallen and also how much revenue the camera has generated over the years.

There are no plans to relocate the camera elsewhere at present.

The aim of the Safer Roads Partnership is to reduce the number of people killed and injured on the roads across Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin.
