IT’S as you were in Norton as Conservative candidate Mike Webb topped the polls in the ward's by-election to ensure the party retained their seat on Bromsgrove District Council.

Mr Webb, who is the chair of the Bromsgrove Conservative Association, won 43.2 per cent of the vote on Thursday, January 19, drawing in a total of 219.

Labour’s Rory Shannon took second spot with 186, equating for 36.7 per cent of the vote. 

UKIP candidate Adrian Smart followed with 82 votes while Michelle Baker of the Green party registered 20 votes.

It meant the Conservatives won despite taking 16.6 per cent less votes than last time, while Labour's tally grew by 7.1 per cent, and Green's decreased 6.6 per cent. 

One vote was rejected while the overall turnout for the ward was 25.2 per cent.

Mr Webb has been a resident of Bromsgrove for over 15 years, eight of which he served on the cabinet.

The by-election was required following the death of Cllr Pete Lammas last October.
