I MET with Barratt David Wilson Homes on Friday (January 13) to discuss residents’ worries over a revised road junction in Wire Hill as part of a new housing development, writes Redditch MP Karen Lumley in her diary from Westminster.

I saw project director Andrew Dauncey regarding plans to change the priority for traffic at a new junction being proposed off Nine Day Lane. He confirmed that his company was happy for the priority to change and for a give way line to be placed at the entrance of the new development instead, as long as the Highways Department at Worcestershire County Council deemed it to be safe and appropriate.

I will now be contacting Worcestershire County Council Highways Department to request they reconsider the priority at the new junction. I will also be contacting Redditch Borough Council to request a change in the deed of planning.

At the time of writing I was also awaiting a Ministerial decision regarding my request to ‘call in’ and re-examine the current Redditch Local Plan which allows for the building of thousands of new houses in Webheath. I believe the council has not given due consideration to the alternative venue of Bordesley, especially given the poor infrastructure in Webheath and closer proximity to jobs in Bordesley.

It will also have been reported this week that I have suffered a health relapse during recovery from my operation. Last week I had to return home to Redditch, where I will remain for a while. I will not be able to attend Parliament or undertake constituency visits until at least the end of January.

I am very upset and disappointed as I love my job and put all that I can into it. However it is business as usual, and my offices in Redditch and in Westminster will continue to operate as normal. I can fully monitor emails and other correspondence, so anyone with any constituency matters should continue to contact me in the usual way.

I would also urge you to get involved with the current public consultation regarding the Future of Acute Hospital Services in Worcestershire, raising your concerns about the Trust and the need for further funding. All of the consultation material and access to the online survey, where you can raise your concerns, is available at: www.worcsfuturehospitals.co.uk.
