LEDBURY'S MP, Bill Wiggin said he was "delighted" by the EU referendum vote in favour of Brexit, and it appears that the majority of Herefordshire people agree with his position on the major issue of the day.

In Herefordshire, 40.8 per cent of voters wanted to remain in the EU; but 59.2 per cent wanted out.

This means that Herefordshire was marginally more pro-Brexit than the majority of the UK.

The national vote saw 51.9 per cent voters going for Brexit, and 48.1 per cent wishing to remain.

But with the fall-out from the Brexit vote still rumbling on, Mr Wiggin expressed regret that David Cameron has decided to step aside as Prime Minister.

Mr Wiggin said: "I am delighted that the people of the UK, in exercising their democratic right to vote, have voted to

leave the European Union. We have decided to take back control of the UK. This is a momentous day and a very exciting time for British politics.

"I firmly believe that this decision will lead to a more prosperous future for the people of Britain, as

we reaffirm our position as a great European power heading into a bright future."

But Mr Wiggin added: "I would also like to place on record my disappointment at the news that The Prime Minister

is to step down. Mr Cameron has led our party and this country over the years. He led us to a deserved majority at the last election, delivered a one nation conservative Government, and it is his bravery that allowed this once in a generation Referendum to take place.

"I wish him and his family the best for the future."
