INSPIRATIONAL Alvechurch boy Finlay Church, who raised more than £100,000 for charity and smashed the Guinness World Record for having the most teddy bears in a row, has been honoured by another Guinness World Record.

Friends and family of Finlay rallied together to break the record for 'the longest line of hats'.

The record previously stood at 1,000, but on Friday, May 20 5,471 were lined up on Alvechurch CE Middle School, which would have been Finlay's 12th birthday.

The record-breaking hat, number 1,001, was donated by McFly’s Tom Fletcher.

The event also raised more than £5,000 for Brain Tumour Research as each person who placed a hat also gave at least a £1 donation.

The donated hats will be given to Socks and Chocs, a charity providing essential items for homeless people.

Speaking on Facebook page Finlay’s Journey, his mother Penny said: "Thank you again for making an incredibly tough day a bit easier to get through.

"It was an extremely emotional day but we did our angel FJ proud.

"We smashed it. Thanks to everyone who donated hats. Everyone who donated money. Everyone who donated time.

"Everyone who once again showed their support for us as a family."

She added: "In just four weeks we have broken a world record and funded more than two days research at a centre of excellence.

"I am so proud of us all. You guys, who continue to support us as a family through donations of stuff, hats, money, attending our events, time, love, are just awesome. I hope you aren't bored of Brain Tumour Research yet, as it's never going to stop for team Church."

Finlay, who passed away after a 17 month cancer battle on November 25, was crowned Child of Courage at the Pride of Birmingham Awards 2015.
