A HEREFORD man has appeared in court charged with slashing his mother's lodger across the neck with an eskimo blade.
Carl William Bennett, 46, of Wordsworth Road, Whitecross, Hereford, did not enter a plea to the charge of grievous bodily harm with intent when he appeared before magistrates this morning.
Patrick Mayglothing, 60, was taken to hospital with a wound to his neck following the incident on Monday evening in Westfaling Street. He remains in hospital where his condition is described as stable.
The incident took place at the house of Bennett's mother. Police were called to the Whitecross street at 6.45pm.
Lesley Ashton, prosecuting, said Mr Mayglothing, a lodger at the house, suffered a 12 centimetre cut to his neck which had gone through a major vein but not an artery.
She said: "The victim suffered a serious injury to the neck. This is a serious offence with a bladed article namely an eskimo blade."
Bennett was remanded in custody and told he would appear before Worcester Crown Court in March.
