ARTISAN butchers Legges of Bromyard are encouraging members of the public to “Sur-Pies” them by coming up with a new “Pie-Dea” to enter into their pie inventing competition.

The family business which includes a butchers, deli and pie-shop wants people to come up with an original seasonal pie recipe for them to make and sell as a limited edition run later this summer.

The creative cook who wins the contest will have the pie named after them and the packaging will feature a branded caricature of the winner. They will also receive a box of pies to share with family and friends.

The business, which celebrates its 15th anniversary this year, is looking for entries from across Herefordshire and beyond, and welcomes ideas from toddlers to pensioners - and everyone in between!

The pies have to be created so they can be served cold and are encased in a hot-water crust pastry.

Legges owner Anthony Legge said: “So many of my customers come and tell me about the amazing dishes they create with the meats they buy here, and I thought this would be a great opportunity to celebrate that creativity and see what pie recipes everyone can come up with.

“There’s so much fun you can have with seasonal British ingredients and seeing someone’s idea brought to life on our shelves will be really exciting.

“All I want entrants to remember is that the pie will be cold-eating, and will have a hot-water crust pastry. The rest really is up to you!”

Entries are open until July 19th, and entry forms can be downloaded from the website - http://www.leggesofbromyard.com/ or picked up in the store on Tenbury Road, Bromyard, Herefordshire.

The winning designs will be shortlisted, and the final five will be made in-store by the Legges kitchen team, before being judged by an expert local panel. The winner will be announced at the end of August 2015.
