THE manager of Ludlow Leisure Centre has met his match.

Earlier this year leisure general manager Lee Hassan laid down the gauntlet to ask gym members to enter a competition to beat him in the inaugural Storm the Castle challenge.

Nine members of Teme Leisure stepped up the challenge, entering a draw to win a year’s free membership. Overall the event attracted 216 entries, with 195 finishing.

Paul Francis finished in two hours 35 mins, 20 minutes ahead of the Teme Leisure boss.

The event was the brainchild of three former Ludlow School pupils - Dermott Hayes, Matthew Green and Matthew Morris - who are equally passionate about their sport and the area they grew up.

It was a combined cycling and running event covering a distance of 48k in total, consisting of a 10k hilly run, followed by a 33k cycle, then a further 5k run.

Starting from Ludlow Rugby Club the route took in some of Ludlow’s spectacular scenery and finished in the grounds of Ludlow Castle following a tough climb around the castle walls.
