A LEOMINSTER mum has received more than £1,000 in compensation after a flight delay disrupted what should have been a dream wedding in the sun.

Mackayla Morris, 26, was due to fly from Manchester to Orlando with her then fiancé Lee, 30, and son, Cailan, 4, for the couple’s wedding in January 2013.

But their plans for a perfect holiday collapsed when Thomson Airways representatives announced their plane had been re-allocated to passengers on another flight.

Mrs Morris said her plane took off from Manchester seven hours after the scheduled departure time.

She said: “The passengers on the other flight had already been delayed by around 24 hours before their flightto Mexico, so our plane was given to them.

"By the time they had found a replacement plane for us, more than three hours had passed, and when we finally boarded the plane we were then told to get off again as there was a technical fault – so we had to wait for another three hours.”

On returning home, Mrs Morris contacted Bott & Co Solicitors to help her claim compensation she was entitled to under a European Union law.

And, this month, both parents and Cailan were awarded £460 each.

The couple were the law firm’s 10,000th successful claim and were treated with a luxury spa day for two and bouquet as a late wedding gift.

After a landmark ruling in the case of Huzar V Jet2.com, airlines are no longer able to claim that flight disruption caused by ordinary technical defects are part of the extraordinary circumstances outlined in EU regulations.

Passengers who believe they may have suffered a delay of three hours or more in the last six years can enter their flight details into flight compensation.com to find out if they can make a claim.

Thomson declined to comment when approached by the Hereford Times.
