A MEMORIES day will take place at Mary Stevens Park to give people the chance to reflect on time spent there in years gone by.

The event will mark the development of an online archive about the park, the immediate local area and its benefactors.

Recordings will be made on the day and visitors can bring along any photographs they wish to contribute to the project, which has been funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

A display showing the history of the park will also be on display at the Sons of Rest building.

But for the day to be a success Deborah Merrick, the senior heritage park ranger, is looking for volunteers who are willing to meet and greet visitors and take records.

Volunteers will receive basic training at 11am on Saturday November 8, before the event is opened to the public from 12noon to 3pm.

Deborah said: "In the long term it is hoped we will branch out to visit people in the community that may be unable to visit the park and put together a memories box that can be taken to care homes to jog memories and remind people of how the park was when they were young.

"However, the volunteers will be crucial in deciding how the project develops and goes forward."
