A CREATIVE Sedgley schoolboy has won a regional wildlife drawing competition organised by the National Trust.

Oliver Fellows, who attends Cotwall End Primary School, was named as the overall winner after impressing judges with his drawing of birds feeding.

The five-year-old's winning drawing was inspired by Benthall Hall, near Broseley, Shropshire, where he spotted different types of birds in the garden.

He said: “I enjoy drawing and wanted to do a nice picture. I was really happy and excited when I found out I’d won.”

For his prize Oliver visited Wightwick Manor and Gardens in Wolverhampton, where he received an art lesson from Midlands-based illustrator Shelly Perkins, who was one of the judges.

He also won a canvas print of his winning drawing, a sketch pad and pencils.

Proud mum Beverley said: “We’re really proud of him. Both Oliver and his brother Benjamin love art and often have lots of crayons and pens out even before breakfast. We are really thrilled.”

Sarah Kinnersley from the National Trust added: “The standard of entries was incredibly high with some absolutely beautiful drawings.

“Oliver’s entry really stood out as he’d made some great wildlife observations, I could clearly see the different types of birds. His drawing beautifully captured wildlife in action.”
