SOLAR panels could be placed on a church near Ross-on-Wye.

Llangarron Parochial Church Council has submitted plans to install two solar thermal panels and 16 photovoltaic panels on the roof of the village's St Deinst Church.

Planning permission for five solar thermal panels was granted in August last year, but work has yet to be implemented.

Therefore, it would be superseded by the new proposal.

"The recent refurbishment of the north aisle and creation of the Llangarron Community Association have resulted in an increased use of the building, particularly extending its use within the secular community," reads a design and access statement submitted to Herefordshire Council.

"The introduction of solar thermal and PV panels by pre-heating water for the heating installation and generating electricity will significantly reduce the running costs of the building.

"This will help to ensure that the building usage increase is maintained and extended."
