Medieval fun will aid cancer charity

LORDS and ladies, knights, maidens and jesters will be coming together on Saturday, July 12 at Wythall Park Community Centre in Silver Street to compete for the Weatheroak Charity Challenge Trophy.

The show will be opened at noon by Joanne Malin, presenter of ITV's Central Tonight, and all the money raised by the challenge will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support to help people affected by cancer.

Teams of six will take part in an "It's a Knock-out" competition and each team will include a knight, a maiden, a jester and three squires.

Organiser Peter O'Shaugh-nessy said: "We are not bothered about cross-dressing, so male maidens and female knights will just add to the fun, but we would like everyone to join in the spirit by coming in medieval dress."

The actual tasks on the day for each team are a closely guarded secret, but they could include rescuing a maiden from a dragon, a jousting tournament or milking a cow.

As well as the challenge, there will be five-a-side football with a difference, sideshows, vintage motorcycles, a martial arts demo, a bouncy castle, a pig roast, a giant paella and many other attractions.

Places are limited so early registration is advised.

There is no entrance fee to the event for spectators, so teams should bring as many supporters as possible.
