WORCESTERSHIRE County Council's sustainable travel team and Webheath First School have launched their second walking bus.
The walking bus is a safe, healthy and sustainable approach to walking groups of children to and from school that helps to reduce traffic congestion caused by the school run.
Walking buses work by adults escorting children to school along a safe, predetermined route that has been risk assessed. Children benefit from learning important road safety messages while taking part in gentle exercise and also enjoy increased time to socialise with their peers.
Councillor Derek Prodger MBE, the county council's cabinet member for the environment, said: "Webheath First School is to be congratulated on launching its second walking bus. For a school to organise one walking bus is a significant accomplishment that cements the commitment of the school and community to sustainable travel but to have two walking buses is a fantastic achievement. I hope that the school continues its good work."
The walking buses form a key part of the Webheath First School travel plan. A travel plan is a document that sets out to promote sustainable travel to and from the school that also includes road safety and healthy lifestyle benefits.
The new walking bus starts at the Carlton Close play area, off Great Barn Lane, and collects school children on route to Webheath First School.
Those wanting more information about the walking bus can contact Simon Whitehead, the county council's senior marketing and communications officer for Choose How you Move, on 01905 765781 or log on to www.worcestershire.gov.uk/choose.
