Surprise for Stan!

A LIVELY sports fan from a Redditch housing scheme recently celebrated his 102nd birthday.

Stan Claridge, who has lived at Frederick Eary House in Studley Road since 1999, enjoyed two meals out with family members to celebrate his milestone, and was also treated to a surprise party.

A spokesman for Frederick Eary House said: "We told him we were just having our normal afternoon bingo session so he wouldn't suspect anything but then threw him a surprise party, which the mayor also attended. Stan is great, he attends all the events we hold here and really enjoys himself. He is very indepentant and likes getting out and about with his family.

"He is a huge sports fan and loves to watch coverage of football, golf and snooker on TV."

Mr Claridge was born in Oxford and later moved to Cornwall where he lived for 25 years. He moved to Redditch to be nearer to his family, which now consists of 10 great granchildren.

He was married to Winifred for 65 years and says that having a happy marriage helps people to live to a good age.
