Home Secretary and the police witness art attack
 |
| Home Secretary Jacqui Smith looks over some of the competition entries with Kingsley College student Emily Fox, watched by Redditch Councillor Pattie Hill, Woodrow CSO Gemma Bosco-Woods and Redditch Councillor Phil Mould. |
A SERIES of art workshops are putting Redditch youngsters in the picture as part of a national art competition that has drawn praise from the Home Secretary.
Jacqui Smith attended the final workshop held at Woodrow Library and was impressed with the entries.
Organiser of the workshops, police community support officer Gemma Bosco-Woods, said the Home Secretary was also interested in the young artists' perceptions of Redditch as reflected in the competition theme, My Town.
"She was also impressed that we were using the library and getting the kids involved that way," she added.
The competition was launched by internationally renowned artist Mackenzie Thorpe and was attended by 10-18 year-olds from the area.
"The competition really captured the imagination and although quite a few of those who turned up were too young to actually enter they still worked on pictures and were really keen to get in on it," added Gemma.
