REDDITCH police have discounted suggestions that they are using Big Brother surveillance tactics to spy on people's homes.

Sgt Eddie Barry told the Indicator that a remote control camera fixed to the police station last week would not be used to keep watch on residents.

His assurance was meant to allay fears from people within camera range in Archer Road that police would use the device to see into their bedrooms.

In a letter to the Indicator Mr John Hart said that he regarded the camera as an infringement to community relations.

"Making ordinary residents feel they are being spied on by Big Brother' will only lead to mistrust and resentment of the police," he said.
