FIRE destroyed a garage and the two cars inside it at the home of a company director at Abbots Morton, near Inkberrow.

The blaze, believed to have been started by an electrical fault, has caused at least £20,000 worth of damage.

Mr Roger Selman and his wife Brenda, of White Close, were woken early on Sunday by "popping sounds".

When they looked out they saw smoke and rushed outside to find their garage well alight.

Inside were the couple's year-old turbo-charged Saab and a four-year-old Volvo.

"We didn't tackle the fire because the petrol might have exploded," said Mrs Selman.

"One car was full of petrol."

A horse trailer, a filter plant for the family's swimming pool and a solar heating system for the pool were also destroyed in the blaze.

Fireman from Evesham brought the fire under control but everything was gutted.

By 8am, neighbours had rallied to the Selmans' aid and loaned two cars.
