A REDDITCH lad with his heart set on the stage has turned to the underworld for his first break.

Twelve-year-old Wayne Blackwell is through to the final casting selections to find the lad who will play Bugsy Malone in a summer West End production.

Wayne, of Reunal Court, Crabbs Cross, has wanted to act since watching Star Wars four years ago.

He queued for five hours with about 10,000 other hopeful youngsters on Sunday, for a chance to audition for the part at London's Olympia Stadium.

Within a week he will be told the date of his second audition when he hopes to be chosen for the leading role of gangster Bugsy.

But his ambition doesn't stop there.

He is also waiting to hear from Universal Studios in America about an audition for a part in ET 2.
