MS Kumbi Mandinyenya, Service Manager of the Alzheimers Society of Worcestershire and Dr David Battey talked to members of SI Bromsgrove and Redditch on June 12 about Alzheimers Disease and dementia which affects 700,000 members of the population.

Ms Mandinyenya described the various types and symptoms of dementia and of the work of the Alzheimers Society in helping to alleviate the distress which this cruel disease causes.

There are 250 branches of the organisation throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland (Scotland has a differents set up) and these are in touch with 30,000 people per week, providing home respite, group outings, and practical support.

There are also national and local support lines and online support available.

No branch exists in Redditch at the moment but there is a support group in Bromsgrove and sufferers from Redditch do attend there.

Alzheimers Society is one of president Penny's nominated charities and we are supporting a forthcoming parachute jump by her daughter-in-law to raise money and awareness Ther will also be a barn dance in August from which funds will be allocated to that and another charity.

Following the talk members discussed club business and forthcoming social events.

SI Bromsgrove and Redditch is a service club for women from business and the professions, which meets monthly at the Foxlydiate Arms in Redditch.
