ON June 5, a warm welcome was given to Ray Sturdy photo traveller and presenter.
Ray is well known for his extensive travel and social history, his slide shows and talks are all given in aid of Mencap the charity founded by Brain Rix.
members heard about a sponsored cycle ride he undertook around the Ring of Kerry a distance of 314 miles this being part of the un-spoilt region of Ireland that has attracted visitors for hundred of years.
Its spectacular beauty was shown beyond question and members were convinced that visitors to Ireland should not miss a trip to the beautiful Ring of Kerry.
The highlight of the talk was that a handicapped young lady took part and although struggling she bravely finished the ride.
On June 19, the speaker was Ann Healey who said that following a crisis in her life she decided to take up a challenge. As she had always been fond of animals she surfed the internet and joined a group of people from England and abroad to take part in conservation volunteering in South Africa.
These projects help to support and develop some of the most precious natural habitats and animals on the planet. She took part in the tracking and monitoring of lions using Radio Telemetry and worked with many other species including giraffes, zebras, bush babies, rhinos and leopards all within a game reserve.
Members were requested to help and donate items for sale on the circles stall at the Alexander Hospital fete on July 5.
