MPs perks

10:19am Wednesday 9th July 2008

I WAS disgusted to read that our Member's of Parliament can claim £22,000 in expenses.

Who gave them permission to dip into the taxpayer's public purse?

Of course, how silly of me, they police themselves so anything is permissible. Then insult to injury they take the case to court, in order to prevent us sucker's seeing just how much they were fleecing the system by.

This case cost the taxpayer another £100,000. How freely they spend our money. What a pity they lost the case, now we can all see what avaricious, self-serving, overpaid creatures they are.

Our troops went to war in Iraq without the right equipment to defend themselves, whilst this shower have been refurbishing their homes at our expense. They should all hang their heads in shame.

What a pity Guy Fawkes cannot be resurrected.

I am now left wondering whether these so called politicians pay tax and NI contributions on their enormous salaries and expenses, in the same way as every employee in the country.

I wonder if our local Redditch MP, Jacqui Smith, might care to confirm whether they do in her 'fairy tales from Westminster' column?

Mrs Margaret Drewell, Headless Cross, Redditch
