Don’t keep on blaming youth

9:51am Tuesday 25th March 2008

WHILE reading through the Advertiser last week I couldn't help but notice yet another letter from Mrs Morley regarding the Morton Stanley skate park.

Obviously not content with failing to have production of the facility entirely stopped, Mrs Morley felt that she had to continue placing her disregard for the youth of this town by blaming us for something which is not correct.

I would like to make her aware that the people who are drinking illegally at the facility are not the same people who use it every week, as an older skateboarder who uses a skateboard purely for leisure purposes I find this particularly offensive.

We have had to overcome our own challenges with vandalism and arson in the past twelve months, yet no letter was sent by Mrs Morley during this period of time, which I find incredible as she has so many comments to share with us about completely irrational and untrue comments regarding local skateboarders and dog walkers.

There is a lot of young talent out and about Redditch who are also suffering due to the lack of respect for our local skate park, and I personally feel that more should be done to encourage them to get out and learn more - by posting letters such as the one mentioned above.

Mrs Morley is diminishing the population of young talent around Redditch, simply because they have respectable parents who believe they will get into trouble by going down to the skate park. I would like to ensure parents of young skateboarders around the Redditch area that all due care and consideration for the other users of the Morton Stanley facilities is maintained, and we have yet to have had a single complaint from any solitary dog-walker.

Keep skateboarding alive by encouraging the talented youth around our town to use the facilities available, and by ignoring letters which have no relevant or factual evidence.
