THE 247th meeting of the club took place at the Hollybush Hotel, Alcester, on Wednesday, April 23.
After lunch we were entertained by Roy Dixon, an experience hot air balloonist.
Roy spoke at length about ballooning and illustrated his talk with many pictures on his portable screen.
He told us of the many conditions which have to be met before one can even think about flying a balloon, such as a pilot's licence, ability to "read" the weather at launch time and during a flight, where one can or cannot land, varying heights at which one must fly in accordance with Air Traffic Control etc.
Balloons come in all shapes and sizes up to about half a million cubic feet capacity.
All sorts of shapes can be had including beer bottles, a Michelin Man, and even a very large polar bear!
Members were obviously intrigued by Roy's talk, judging by the number of questions asked and answered afterwards.
An excellent and most interesting speaker!
Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, May 28 when we will welcome Jenny Pen-Ashman who will be telling us about the local Air Ambulance service.
We meet at 12.15pm for 12.45pm and welcome anyone interested in joining the club.
More information can be had from the secretary on 01789 766217.
ALCESTER Fire Station opened its doors on Saturday for an open day that lasted well into the night, with everything from face painters and bouncy castles, to a barbecue and live bands.
REDDITCH Market has now moved back to its permanent home on Alcester Street following a makeover.
A BRAVE member of staff stood up to armed robbers when they carried out a terrifying raid at the Hollywood sub post office.
THE funeral of James Hughes, whose body was found concealed in a suitcase in the garden of his Redditch family home, will take place on Friday.
A REDDITCH man jailed indefinitely for a vicious bottle and knife attack which left his victim permanently scarred failed in Appeal Court challenges to his conviction and sentence.
WHILE customers of Mount Pleasant Post Office fight to keep it open, customers of the main town centre post office will soon benefit from a refurbishment.
