THE Inner Wheel Club of Redditch held its April meeting at the Southcrest Hotel, Redditch.
President Pat Pritchard welcomed members and honorary members to the meeeting and after the meal the speaker for the evening was introduced.
On this occasion it was Mike Davies from Churchfields Ice Cream.
Mike explained that his family were dairy farmers, and had run their present farm for 40 years.
After government grants finished dairy farmers became very vulnerable and there was great competition from abroad.
Mike and his family decided to diversify and began producing Ice cream, the family are now in their third year of business.
They visit many exhibitions and events such as the Country Living Fair, The Three Counties Show, and The Royal Show.
Their ice cream is a little different from the norm as they produce varieties such as stilton and other cheese varieties, and have had requests for asparagus and plum, their recipes remain top secret.
Mike's company has featured on the BBC programme "This Little Farmer Went to Market", and from this they became better known. They are members of The Heart of England Fine Foods Guild, and have won the Fine Food award. Mike explained the most important aspect of their business is marketing. They supply a number of local outlets and restaurants.
There are currently 20 flavours of ice cream available.
Members enjoyed free samples of the ice cream and all agreed it was superb.
The vote of thanks was given by president Pat and after a short business meeting the evening was brought to a close.
