Ipsley with Crabbs Cross WI
IT was a members evening in April when the committee take a break.
After Jerusalem and the usual business, Christine Crabtree took over as president for the evening, Sheila Darby acted as secretary.
We were introduced to Roger Green, a man who sought fame and fortune with the Black and White Minstrels.
The show was an absolute must to watch in the 1970s.
Roger first went on tour with the Second XI but was soon promoted to the first team who played at the Palace Theatre in London for many years and were the high point of Saturday night on TV.
Alas, political correctness crept in and white men who blacked their faces caused offence to some people so the show was withdrawn from TV. But if you have a good singing voice, use it.
Roger did just that and went to sing on cruise liners where he met lots of famous people.
A most interesting talk about a very popular show - interspersed with a few songs, just to prove the voice is not yet spent. A very enjoyable evening.
After supper the competitions were judged and Lorna won the Flower of the Month for the first time in 30 years! Black and White in any medium was won by Rita Massey, with Judith and Janet second and third.
