"JESUS is coming. No bingo on Sunday". "Open seven days a week except Sundays". These notices could only be seen in Ireland and shown to WI members by Ray Sturdy when he gave an illustrated talk entitled A Drop of the Hard Stuff.
He, with 27 others, cycled 300 miles round The Ring of Kerry, southern Ireland, to raise money for Mencap.
He spoke of the potato famine when more than one million people either died or emigrated.
There were glorious views, lovely flowers, few punctured tyres and lots of Guinness to drink.
There were may laughs as he showed posters he saw along the way, eg. "Bargain Basement upstairs"!
Mr Sturdy was thanked by Ann Lowth.
The competition was for an Irish joke and was won by: 1st: Anne Fox, 2nd and 3rd: Audrey Millard.
Coffee was served by Anne Goulbourne and Cynthia Young. Sheila Parr gave an account of the Spring Council meeting when the speakers were the national chairman of the WI and Professor Lord Robert Winston.
WI members carried out a litter pick throughout Haselor, gathering a number of bags of rubbish filled with drinks cans to a car bonnet!
THERE was a fine four-fendered friend on display at the Throckmorton Arms in Coughton in the form of the famous car Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
